Dholera’s Transformation: From Smart City to Semicon Superpower

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel recently visited the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) to evaluate the rapid infrastructure advancements taking place. The state government, under his leadership, is pushing forward with the vision of developing India’s inaugural Semicon City, featuring cutting-edge smart infrastructure integrated with renewable energy solutions.

During the inspection, the Chief Minister received detailed updates on the Dholera Smart City initiative, a flagship project guided by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Key components such as internal road networks, underground utility systems, and ready-to-use industrial setups have reached significant stages of completion. Sustainability remains a core focus of the project, with a 300 MW solar park already functional, ensuring the region’s energy requirements are met through clean power. Supporting facilities like water treatment plants, sewage systems, effluent treatment, and state-of-the-art ICT infrastructure have also been established.

An important highlight of the review was the progress on the Tata Electronics semiconductor manufacturing plant currently under construction in Dholera. This facility is expected to be a cornerstone in creating a robust domestic semiconductor ecosystem. Several global and Indian semiconductor companies are actively setting up operations here, further strengthening Dholera’s position as a future-ready industrial and technological center.

Infrastructure development to support this industrial boom is also accelerating. Officials informed the Chief Minister that approximately 95% of the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway work has been completed. Additionally, he toured the site of the Dholera International Airport, where the construction of the terminal, cargo facilities, and runway is underway at an estimated investment of ₹1,350 crore. Other essential amenities such as the Bhimnath-Dholera freight railway line, a fully equipped 192-bed hospital, educational institutions, a fire station, and residential complexes for workers and investors are also being developed in parallel.

Ambrish Parajiya, Managing Director of the GAP Group, expressed confidence in Dholera’s growth trajectory. He mentioned that their township project aims to complement the region’s industrial rise with top-tier residential and commercial spaces, enhancing the overall living experience.

The visit underscores Gujarat’s broader mission to lead in sustainable industrialization, combining renewable energy initiatives with high-tech manufacturing to transform Dholera into a global industrial powerhouse.
